HUMAN Deluxe - Nitepunk

There's some cool ideas here, and unfortunately only a few of the tracks actually received remixes (there were other remixes, I believe, which weren't featured on this deluxe edition). But most of it comes down to one question: can the remixers live up to the energy Nitepunk delivered? The simple answer is, mostly not.

  1. Point - NVADRZ & WINK Remix - Absolutely insane dubstep transformation of the original bass house track, love the impact the new sound on the first drop gives (preserving the original lead, which was already an earworm) and the rest of it gives it some extra spice as well. In fact, I'd call this a sure improvement on the original. (95/100)

  2. Too Hot To Touch - Effin Remix - Effin definitely wrapped "Too Hot To Touch" in his own flavour, and it goes pretty hard; he did drown the lead a little in a sea of bass, but I don't actually mind it. It's abrasive, it's stabby, the Effin sampling is good as ever—I like this. (84/100)

  3. Spider - Control Freak Remix - Doesn't mess with the original components too much ("Spider" was a banger, so I appreciate that) but still adds a nice acidic flavour to it with the first drops and sounds distinctly different. Not huge on the sampling, but I can overlook that. (78/100)

  4. Hyperdust - Reimagined - A weird progressive techno take on the original, with very long builds whilst still keeping the original vocal samples, leads, and even the cowbell—yeah I don't know man, it's very creative but it sacrifices the violent energy that made it so good. (74/100)

  5. Better Off - msft Remix - A nice liquid breakbeat take on the original with some wonkier sound design and a stronger backsection, but it ultimately doesn't hit any sweet spots for me—feels like it doesn't quite match the mood of the original. (70/100)

  6. Spider - Rohaan & Gaszia Remix - Not sure about the sped up vocals, but the frantic drums are a neat change. The DnB is nice, but nothing crazy, and the track doesn't do too much; pretty inoffensive remix. (68/100)

  7. MTV - Jon Casey Remix - Weird, minimalistic, wubby drops, and even though I like what's been done to the vocal sections, minimalistic trap on a Nitepunk tune is not the way to go. (63/100)

  8. Too Hot To Touch - Shadient & AWE Remix - Not entirely sure what's going on here—strong kicks and loud sustains, the latter of which I definitely dislike—it somehow manages to keep all the abrasiveness and heaviness whilst taking away all the impact, though I do like the bridges and buildups. (52/100)
